Wikinet check user

I wanted to inform that last week, unfortunately I did not for lack of time during my normal work.

Well, I take this problem on the server to inform the Wikinet been having problems with the Check user. I do not know why but the tool does not work when trying to get the IP's of vandalism to determine a range block. Rhubella Marie, the rat sockpreppie 3,563 preppiedits 18:45, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

Desgalipedia has a problem, today

I can not access the site from 1 am (GMT) today [1] and from what I knew now the domain .org of Uncyclopedia brasilian, beyond UnCommons.

The problem is that pesky server Roberto insists ~~that sex change and become Roberta~~ who insists on giving error problems.

We had a few weeks ago a problem after we created a new MediaWiki page with gadgets, or something. That error'd the log-in function, so nobody could log-in. The second hard drive (/dev/hdb) on oscar.uncyclomedia.org stopped working Sunday night; I'm trying to put everything back up (the database is OK) but there are still a few small pieces like http://bjaodn.org and http://commons.desciclomidia.org still to be put back into place. Same here, but without shit. I'd say scheisse geschehet because geschehet looks more like shit, but neutralised because it is German, but that doesn't exterminate the smell and the diseases from it. Guys, I got news for you: it is likely that the problem-period will be going on for at least two weeks. Reason: a new (better) server is underway, this will take a week to deliver, and who knows to install and to move everything on it, but before that, Carl is trying to remove and repair the bugs in all ***pedia's to move everything more easier I guess. Yesterday, I got an e-mail from Carlb. He says he is still working on it. He has already done quite a big job on his servers, but has still a lot to do. Oscar seems to be the biggest problem. He is planning to replace the damaged server Oscar with a new one. But it can take some weeks, so we have to be patient.

Last I heard from the datacentre would be that they were to swap in the new oscar.uncyclomedia.org sometime tomorrow afternoon; hopefully some of the load currently on roberto can be moved to oscar once this is done? Users in Desciclopédia that can't login

I opened this forum about 5 users in Desciclopédia who claim they cannot login with their main accounts. Some of them are using sockpuppets, others are simply editing anonymously (when needed) but they can't login with their main accounts. The worst is that these users are already afraid of being desysop for it. If someone opens desysop, I'll be there to disagree. Although in fact only if they stayed a long time without logging out would it be allowed to open desysop. Anyway, Things are getting ugly, and already reported in UnMeta.

I just have to emphasize that this is a serious problem and common sense should reign in comundade is why not start a poll like this. As far as I know, on each server the skin is set individually for each wiki (LocalSettings.php) so a new MediaWiki 1.19alpha installation such as ie: having the new skin can be selected separately from each existing wiki like pt: no: (vector) or uk: (monobook). This depends neither on the upgrade (most of the existing projects are still MediaWiki 1.17 until the incompatibility of specific extensions such as EditCount/LogCount and Icon with 1.19 can be fixed) nor on which skin some other wiki is using (most are vector, regardless of where they're hosted, but not all). The choice of default skin only affects users not logged in as it's set in special:preferences for registered users.

The five users who can't log in all show "July 14, 2011" as the last timestamp in the list of contributions. I'd be curious to know what (if anything) is displayed on a failed login attempt and anything that might allow me to reproduce the problem here, as it's hard to guess what's happening when the site looks normal for all others? --Carlb (talk) 16:25, 6 August 2011 (UTC)

New problems after replacement of oscar.uncyclomedia.org (6 August 2001)

The new server has been deployed; I am still seeing problems with a small number of individual MediaWiki extensions on 'oscar' - there are two CSS extensions for MediaWiki but one or both are missing from info: causing the sidebars to re-appear on the Babel main page. Could you please let me know if you see any other new errors as a result of the upgrade?

Please note, I noticed that some rollback be meaningless uncys suffered data loss in the last 3 days, and Wikinet and UnCommons Among them, by any chance you can restore them?

Commons uses 'oscar' as a database server to store image descriptions (although the images themselves are currently on 'roberto'). DP does not; its database and that of most of the large wikis, including Yansiklopedi, are on 'roberto' and the database itself is not affected by replacing 'oscar' - not the same server. There may be fewer edits on pt: with the Aug 6 date only because the site was being slow and having problems accessing commons: during the replacement of 'oscar'. That's because one can't edit a site when it's being too unresponsive to be usable. Certainly if something exists but happens to be on "the other server" it's not lost, but that question affects just commons (image descriptions) and a few small projects which were moved to 'roberto' just before the upgrade. And yes, common: is affected, pt: and tr: are not (the pt:Toranja cited does indeed exist), based on recentchanges ending Aug 6th. --Carlb (talk) 21:09, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

You can not edit in Çciclopédia, every time it tries to save an issue always gives this error.

Problems with newly-created wikis

MediaWiki 1.19 extensions

The current list of known issues with MediaWiki extensions on newly-created wikis (af: fy: ie: io: mwl: and vls: are currently MW 1.19alpha) include the following extensions:

mw:extension:EditCount and LogCount
mw:extension:NewPageCSS (mw:extension:CSS works, but the tag is {{#css: instead of <css>)
mw:extension:RawMsg
mw:extension:Icon (utterly obsolete now that Image: accepts "link=" as a parameter, but might still be in use from a few templates from existing wikis)
mw:extension:ImageMap and mw:extension:InputBox need to be replaced with the latest versions for MW1.19 and left as the old versions for MW1.17alpha - these do work if the correct version is present.
mw:extension:SpecialInterwiki Versão 1.3.1 needs to be replaced with a later version (1.4.x); mw:extension:SpecialNamespaces is based on the old version Special:Interwiki code and now broken under MW1.19.
mw:extension:Google Maps (where installed) is also breaking - this only affects one wiki on this server, as no one else is currently using the extension here; mw:extension:Maps is a partial, credible alternative but doesn't appear to allow users to draw a path on a map (just individual points of interest).

I've left most existing wikis at the old version (MW 1.17) until some of these can be resolved. --Carlb (talk) 06:33, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

SVG thumbnails

A thumbnail of an OpenClipart SVG

I'm seeing SVG conversions (where MW 1.19 attempts to invoke Inkscape to create a PNG thumbnail) fail on the new MediaWiki while the same conversion appears to be working on the old (MW 1.17) wikis on the same server. Annoying, as the openclipart does provide a complete set of world flags and a few other useful items, scalable to any size. I'm presuming this is 1.19-specific as it's only occurring in a few language wikis installed recently --Carlb (talk) 17:32, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

Problem with images

It seems that some images loaded between 14 July and 15 July are gone.

There were two hard drives replaced due to intermittent hardware errors; /dev/sda on 'roberto' on July 14 (drive replaced July 15) and /dev/sdb on 'oscar' on July 10 (that server was left running with just one drive until being completely replaced on August 6th, with much of the load shifted to the other servers). If this missing imagens are just on one day or so when the server was known to be not working, it may be best to upload them again if you have a copy. I've checked the backups and the drives which were removed but haven't been able to find any images for DP for early-morning on the 15th - even during whatever brief moments the site may have been up. It gives me the following error message, saying the article has been banned from creation:

Sorry, but these namespages were included on a blacklist because many pages with external links full of spam were being created by spambots scheduled.

It's a spamfilter. It only appears when entering an external link. Here you have to retype the words that appear over there, something that spambots cannot do, because they cannot read as humans. Though, with the cyrillic alphabet that is very akward or clamsy, but, maybe as a solution for that, that can be discussed with Carlb, we at Oncyclopedia do have a similiar thing, where instead of retyping things, we have to solve an equation like 1+1, which could be better with the alphabet problem. Strange this happened to you. That isn't supposed to happen. You're sure you were logged in? Try to give yourself "rollback (Відкидачі редагувань)" status, and see if the problem is still there.
