Contents |
[edit] Instructions
Read this as well as the before proposing a new language.
- Create an account and a user page on this wiki, so people can address their questions to you.
- It is recommended that you advertise the project:
- on Runnings-on.
- on the Foundation-l mailing-list to announce your proposal, since UnMeta-Wiki is a low-traffic site.
[edit] Basic Information
- Project name.
- Language, messages & mainpage name If this is a MediaWiki project in a relatively-common natural language, odds are that the language files are already provided, either as part of MediaWiki itself or (if that fails) as part of existing open-content wikis in the same language. If not, the user interface for any software used (a list of translated messages like Special:Allmessages) will need translation before the new project can be created.
- ISO 639 language codes are here and match those of other MediaWiki sites. If multiple codelengths exist, the two-letter version is most often preferred.
- Existing content. It's possible to create a new, empty project but often not advisable - especially if the target is specialised in nature. It's best to start with some level of "seed" content, otherwise prospective visitors will see an empty database and leave instead of seeing an active project and contributing. Empty wikis therefore often stay empty. In some cases, you may want to split an existing namespace or language from an existing wiki (an individual Babel: language, for instance) and allocate it an independent project - this can be done by using XML to export the full page history in a form that can be easily imported into your new project.
- Software and license. Unless otherwise indicated, software is MediaWiki and license is CC-BY-NC-SA (as this combination is compatible with Uncyclopedia, Ikkepedia and the like). If there are specific applications or extensions which will be needed to start your project, say so.
[edit] Domain names
In general, there are four categories of domain names:
- Names (or subdomains of existing names) which you have registered yourself. You own them outright. Just update your domain name server settings and they should be usable directly.
- Names which are already registered and controlled by persons participating in this project. There are a few (such as [whatever].pedia.ws, [xx].uncyclopedia.info, [xx].uncyc.org) which are already available for our use as a source of subdomains as needed.
- Names which are registered to outsiders, such as .unnews.org or .wikia.com - they're not ours to add to or modify so, unless whomever owns unnews.org wants to host (or provide DNS to) your project, no point in proposing [whatever].unnews.org here.
- Names which are currently not registered to anyone. Fair game, but you may want to avoid posting your proposed domain name to any public forums until you've registered it. There is always a risk that anyone reading this may register it themselves.
[edit] Existing languages
Here is the list of Uncyclopedia languages, no more*, no less**.
- = Language (e.g English)
- = Sub-Language (e.g American English)
- = Dialect (e.g Texan)
- = Sub-Language (e.g American English)
[edit] Human Language Family
[edit] English Language Sub-Family
[edit] Germanic Language Sub-Family
[edit] Romance Language Sub-Family
[edit] Ancient Language Sub-Family
[edit] Youth in Asia
[edit] MAD Magazine™ Sub-Family
[edit] Finno-Ugric-Nonsensical-Blatter-Mongerel Sub-Family
* well, there's some nonsense as well.
** because it would contradict with the above point.
If you want to expand an existing language into a new project, please see proposals for new projects.
[edit] Be ashamed
Any critisim your proposal gets is aimed at you. Next time think longer, and harder about your ideas before submitting them to us. Although we will probably still insult them anyway. Why? Because it's policy. Why is it policy? Because we said so.
[edit] Requests with Main Pages demos
- Project name.
Urgîn/Argalish. A new language.
- Language.
Urgîn/Argalish. I don't think men on the earth would know what it is. This is an ancient language that it even forgot itself.
- Existing content.
The first page is to state what Argalish is; a å b c d ǽ e f g h i î j k l ll m n o p q r rr s t u v w x y z are the letters used in Argalish.
- Software and license. Unless otherwise indicated, software is MediaWiki and license is CC-BY-NC-SA (as this combination is compatible with Uncyclopedia, Ikkepedia and the like). If there are specific applications or extensions which will be needed to start your project, say so.
A proposal must have +2 score to have significant support. IP votes count as half a vote.

- They're different languages. "Slovenščina" is Slovenian, "Slovenčina" or "Slovenská" is Slovak. Confusing, eh? 85.30.155.6 15:56, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- Any reason why the license for this one was set to something incompatible with both en: and cs:? That does make it all but impossible to move existing articles over without violating authors' copyright.

Thank You! And sorry for my English very passive--Seraphita 12:26, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
Sorry I absolutely disagree with address! http://oxy.pedia.ws/wiki/ - http://bg.oxypedia is preferable--Seraphita 23:48, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
- Uncyclomedia does not own that address, nor can you get bg.oxypedia(but you could get oxypedia.bg) because of the rules of domain names on the internet. The options that you have without paying for one yourself are bg.uncyclopedia.info, bg.uncyc.org, oxy.pedia.ws, and oxypedia.wikia.com(it's a seperate host, but you could have gotten it). --Jacques Pirat 04:46, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
- I suppose oxypedia.awiki.org could also be a free option - the domain exists, but we haven't made a clever use of it yet. The name 'oxypedia' itself is already taken in .com and .org but should be available in various other top-level domains including http://oxypedia.net - It would cost about $10/year to register if Seraphita wants to own it? The name servers (currently sophia.uncyclomedia.org 64.86.165.249, oscar.uncyclomedia.org 209.139.209.234) and web server configuration will need to be updated once a name is selected for this project. --Carlb 13:24, 1 July 2007 (UTC) 00:31, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you all! I am a little doubtiful. http://oxypedia.wikia.com/ is not free?--Seraphita 22:20, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
- It's free, BUT it's hosted by Wikia and not Uncyclomedia, so before the wiki starts up you have to be approved by the community first. It shouldn't be too hard to get it considering the Latin Uncyclopedia is hosted there, so it's worth a shot, though I do think that it'd be better if you just stuck with what you have (it's now bg.uncyclopedia.info, oxy.pedia.ws, and bg.uncyc.org). --Jacques Pirat 00:36, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you all! I am a little doubtiful. http://oxypedia.wikia.com/ is not free?--Seraphita 22:20, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
- In any case, http://oxypedia.com has already been taken over by oxy morons. It's therefore not available.
- http://oxypedia.uncyc.org should also work... would that be suitable? --Carlb 00:55, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
- Seraphita said on his/her Uncyclopedia talkpage he/she did not think this is suitable and wanted a Wikia wiki. --Jacques Pirat 23:39, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

- This is an oddball case, as the translation from en: -> x-pig-latin: can be done reliably by automated means. Do you propose mirroring existing content with some form of automated conversion, or do you start with a blank wiki and create everything manually? --205.150.76.41 01:19, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- I could do either one. I don't have any way of automaticlly changing all mirrored articles, but I could probably do a blank wiki if needed. Actually, the external link would be a great help to translate. It would take some effort, but I could probably do it. 24.76.98.151 15:53, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- The external link includes the PHP source code for the programme that does the translation. That could be used to provide some sort of automatic translation. The Serbian mediawiki has a tab which, when clicked, translates the character set to "latinica" instead of Cyrillic. Couldn't something like that be made using the igpay atinlay code? --205.150.76.41 20:49, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose. This language is rather silly to have its own wiki, if you can even call it a language. It's just a method of encryption. The only difference between it and modern English is the spelling. There is not a gramamaretical difference, and so it doesn't deserve its own wiki. --Jacques Pirat 19:18, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

I don't know Belgian at all. However, a bunch of bored unelected eurocrats would probably appreciate it to be created. Je ne sais pas pourquoi. --Carlb 13:50, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
Belgian isn't a language, is it? I thought they only spoke French and Dutch in Belgium? And be is the code for Belarusian, isn't it? Smiddle 14:15, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
- You are correct on the first one - the Belgians don't have a native language. The be is ISO code is for Belarusan. The domain .be is for Belgium, however. .by is for Belarus. --Jacques Pirat 18:44, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
- How can they *not* have a native language? They've gotta speak something... --205.150.76.41 02:20, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
- They do speak something. Flemish, French or Dutch. Smiddle 15:52, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
- Well it certainly isn't Dutch, I can assure you. -- 86.92.173.184 15:52, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
- If you must know? It's Smurf! --127.0.0.1 09:54, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
If Belgian is to be created, then languages of other fictional places that only exist as targets of ethnic jokes should be created as well, for instance the Polish or Newfie language. --66.102.80.212 19:43, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

- Nomination There used to be an English-language Uncyclopedia but Wikia just deleted it. Dunno if there's much demand for it, but it could be recreated for nostalgic purposes if anyone wants it. --Carlb 03:24, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
- It looks like a temporary delete to fix some database problems. They should be restoring it soon. --Starnestommy 03:54, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
- Um, is that a 'for' or 'against'? I suppose we don't really need English as a language as Canadians could always just post to the French one... --66.102.80.239 04:02, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
- Support. It might be good to have a wikia-free mirror just in case. Jacques Pirat
