Uncyclomedia's goal is the spread and promotion of finely-honed idiocy throughout the free world. If you want to propose a new language under the umbrella of the Uncyclomedia Foundation which is in line with this goal, you can:
  • If you are willing to take the blame for it, post it here.
  • Otherwise, post it on the discussion page.

If you want to propose a new project for an existing language, please do so on proposals for new projects.

Contents

[edit] Instructions

Read this as well as the before proposing a new language.

  • Create an account and a user page on this wiki, so people can address their questions to you.
  • It is recommended that you advertise the project:

[edit] Basic Information

  • Project name.
  • Language, messages & mainpage name If this is a MediaWiki project in a relatively-common natural language, odds are that the language files are already provided, either as part of MediaWiki itself or (if that fails) as part of existing open-content wikis in the same language. If not, the user interface for any software used (a list of translated messages like Special:Allmessages) will need translation before the new project can be created.
  • ISO 639 language codes are here and match those of other MediaWiki sites. If multiple codelengths exist, the two-letter version is most often preferred.
  • Existing content. It's possible to create a new, empty project but often not advisable - especially if the target is specialised in nature. It's best to start with some level of "seed" content, otherwise prospective visitors will see an empty database and leave instead of seeing an active project and contributing. Empty wikis therefore often stay empty. In some cases, you may want to split an existing namespace or language from an existing wiki (an individual Babel: language, for instance) and allocate it an independent project - this can be done by using XML to export the full page history in a form that can be easily imported into your new project.
  • Software and license. Unless otherwise indicated, software is MediaWiki and license is CC-BY-NC-SA (as this combination is compatible with Uncyclopedia, Ikkepedia and the like). If there are specific applications or extensions which will be needed to start your project, say so.

[edit] Domain names

In general, there are four categories of domain names:

  • Names (or subdomains of existing names) which you have registered yourself. You own them outright. Just update your domain name server settings and they should be usable directly.
  • Names which are already registered and controlled by persons participating in this project. There are a few (such as [whatever].pedia.ws, [xx].uncyclopedia.info, [xx].uncyc.org) which are already available for our use as a source of subdomains as needed.
  • Names which are registered to outsiders, such as .unnews.org or .wikia.com - they're not ours to add to or modify so, unless whomever owns unnews.org wants to host (or provide DNS to) your project, no point in proposing [whatever].unnews.org here.
  • Names which are currently not registered to anyone. Fair game, but you may want to avoid posting your proposed domain name to any public forums until you've registered it. There is always a risk that anyone reading this may register it themselves.

[edit] Existing languages

Here is the list of Uncyclopedia languages, no more*, no less**.

  • = Language (e.g English)
    • = Sub-Language (e.g American English)
      • = Dialect (e.g Texan)

[edit] Human Language Family

[edit] English Language Sub-Family

[edit] Germanic Language Sub-Family

[edit] Romance Language Sub-Family

[edit] Ancient Language Sub-Family

[edit] Youth in Asia

[edit] MAD Magazine™ Sub-Family

[edit] Finno-Ugric-Nonsensical-Blatter-Mongerel Sub-Family

* well, there's some nonsense as well.
** because it would contradict with the above point.

If you want to expand an existing language into a new project, please see proposals for new projects.

[edit] Be ashamed

Any critisim your proposal gets is aimed at you. Next time think longer, and harder about your ideas before submitting them to us. Although we will probably still insult them anyway. Why? Because it's policy. Why is it policy? Because we said so.

[edit] Requests with Main Pages demos

  • Project name.

Urgîn/Argalish. A new language.

  • Language.

Urgîn/Argalish. I don't think men on the earth would know what it is. This is an ancient language that it even forgot itself.

  • Existing content.

The first page is to state what Argalish is; a å b c d ǽ e f g h i î j k l ll m n o p q r rr s t u v w x y z are the letters used in Argalish.

  • Software and license. Unless otherwise indicated, software is MediaWiki and license is CC-BY-NC-SA (as this combination is compatible with Uncyclopedia, Ikkepedia and the like). If there are specific applications or extensions which will be needed to start your project, say so.

A proposal must have +2 score to have significant support. IP votes count as half a vote.

    • Because the portuguese language is divided into European Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese. The Stephanedoliveira's proposal is to create a pt-pt.uncyclopedia, which uses the european version of portuguese. IMHO, useless. Slade 20:13, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm sure lots of Moldovans would love it. We've got a big commnunity at muligambia.com (2000 visits/day) ready to help on it. niku 21:36, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

There already appears to be an Uncyclopedia in this language, http://uncyclopedia.ro (Neciclopedie, ro: enciclopedia liberă pe care oricine o poate modifica). --Carlb 03:01, 8 December 2008 (GMT)
I know that, but Moldovan is not exactly the same as Romanian. These are 2 similar languages. Just like... mmm.... let's say..... Dutch and German. Here's the [7] Moldovan Wikipedia and the [8] Romanian one. You can see the differences. --Niku 12:17 PM, 8 December 2008 (GMT +2)
PS: The Moldovan ISO language code was replaced to "ro" a month ago (or so).

Support. I'm from Moldova but live outside of it now. I would love to have Uncyclopedia in my native language.

Comment: It is possible to create a wiki for Moldovan, but it is not possible for both Moldovan and Romanian (if operated as two languages) to both have the same ro: language code in the same interwiki link set. Should this be created as mo:? --Carlb 01:09, 14 December 2008 (GMT)
OK, but the majority of the people use the latin alphabet, so I think you should be the default one. There could be a tab for automatic conversion to the cyrillic one (http://sr.neciklopedija.org/). I'll have to translate the Local Messages but that's ok. Niku 14:24, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Can you make me an admin? I have to edit Special:Allmessages. Right now, it's half Romanian and half Moldovan. Niku 15:44, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
