    Upgrade to MW 1.39.3

    A stray bit of Cyrillic text from Україна

    It looks like thumbnailing of images with Unicode characters in the name is breaking badly in our existing, outdated MediaWiki 1.35 installation and it will be necessary to go to the current version (1.39.3) to resolve the issue. Just starting this page to record a problem if the transition creates any new issues once it takes place: --User:Carlb

    Ikkepedia

    I'm unable to log into ikkepedia.org and ikkepedia.net with my main account. I assume this is because i have 2FA enabled on my account there, but it's still very annoying.

    Also, ikke.pedia.ws (the domain i'm logged in on) doesn't work. When i try going to that domain i get the following error:

    There was a rollback of edits to the image uploads for the entire month of April. All users who edited in UnCommons are required to report which images they uploaded to review edits made by the bot Maintenance script.     Desciclopédia

    Cases of errors when trying to access histories (Fatal exception of the type “Wikimedia\Rdbms\DBQueryError”) when trying to access user contributions. Addendum: pt:Special:Recent Changes is not updating and MediaWiki:Recentchangestext tools are not remaining available for consultation (the latter only on desciclopedia.org, on Pesquisa.la you can see it normally).

    Special:Editcount is based on a modified version of mw:Extension:Editcount, which could count logged actions like image upload, article (un)deletion, page (un)protection and page (un)deletion. DP uses this for pt:Desciclopédia:EvilRank - the admin counterpart to pt:Desciclopédia:EditRank. The modifications to the extension will need to be done again for the new version.

    pt:Special:RecentChanges, pt:Special:NewPages and pt:Especial:PáginasVigiadas do work, but need to be written without a space or underscore in the page name. Math seems to be trying to access Wikipedia's servers for some reason, which sometimes works and sometimes gives errors. I need to fix this. DynamicPageList doesn't look right - an issue if it appears on the front page of a few wikis, including this one (meta). --[email protected] (talk) 21:56, 1 May 2023 (UTC)

    After 3 days offline, the site is now better. But it is not 100% yet. The Special:Search sometimes (not so often to be frank) doesn't found existent pages.     There was a Pywikibot which grabbed the article count from each of the individual-language Uncyclopedia wikis, including those hosted elsewhere, placing these stats on the main page of uncyclopedia.info - this has been broken since 18 May 2021 as the old version of the bot framework doesn't like the current MW versions.

    Well, I can't say that the extension is working as I can verify it here (on the other hand, I went to Desgalipedia and noticed the same defect) as in the wiki itself via Recent Changes. As the result was the same, it could be that the and servers are alternating periods of improvement and worsening of the extension.     Update: Those two problems seem to be more complicate than I thought, it turn out that both pages are working but with a significant delay by a few minutes, for example, I deleted a page on 19:50 and the changed only appear in Special:RecentChanges on 20:07, a few minutes different, but it would be harmful in case of a vandal. --Little Pebble (talk) 13:29, 3 May 2023 (UTC)

    2. No editions have been registered since 22:00 (Brasilia time) on the 3rd May. The same defect registers on WIkimerda.

    On Wikimerda, all forums have disappeared since 2015, including the forum (Forum:Software Update (May 2023)) that would serve as a warning about problems after the change of MediaWiki with the same title since here.     Wikimerda new problems

    It seems that many images uploaded, from the old ones to the ones uploaded that year, are buggy, as you can see here, in addition to the sites loading a little slow , which includes Wikimerda, Malucopedia and also Uncommons.     Wikinet has a problem with the edit bar. The MediaWiki change has eliminated some buttons from the toolbar, leaving only about 3 basic buttons.     Extension:DPLforum has been hard-coding the namespaces 110 (Forum) and 111 (Forum talk - the most useless ever invented) right into the extension's code for a few years now. Unfortunately, some wikis had Forum assigned to some other number (such as 16), yielding the odd result that Special:Allpages would display a pulldown box listing namespaces in which two different namespaces had the same name. My guess is that the outdated topics are in NS16 and the more recent discussions are in NS110. If I comment the old namespace out of the config file, the new posts appear.     Wikimedia made some cosmetic changes to the Vector skin in 2022 (the original Vector is from 2010, the default skin before then was Monobook). If you enable the new skin in Special:Preferences→Appearance you may find the site logo is missing or wrong. This is because Vector-2022 splits the logo into multiple pieces like Image:WikiIcon.png (100x100), WikiWordmark.png (135x20) and WikiTagline.png (135x15) so that the wordmark and tagline may be moved to the right of the icon.

    If the old logo was (for example) a 135x135 PNG with a puzzle potato above the site name "Uncyclopedia" above the tagline "The content-free encyclopaedia" it may be necessary to take image-editing software and:

    • Copy just the potato logo (without the text) to a new PNG, which should be resized to 100x100 pixels.
    • Copy just the site name (without the logo and tagline) to another new PNG, cropped to 135x20.
    • Copy just the tagline to yet another new PNG, cropped to 135x15.

    This is already done on this wiki, but it'd be up to each individual wiki (if there's still an active community) to decide whether to make the new skin the default. I'd expect many would just to look like WP as a parody of that site, but there are still a couple of wikis on the pre-2010 Monobook and I've left that alone for now.

    We previous have forced logo change (and stamps over the logo) on pages (or namespaces) all over the place, how to implement this feature on Vector 2022 (as well as Minerva) would be a bigger problem. I currently can only ensure these things work well in the old Vector and Monobook.--Abcabc2 (talk) 11:38, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
    It doesn't look good, as LogoFunctions seems to be expecting to replace one logo (not three separate pieces) and the result is likely to look like https://desciclopedia.org/wiki/Mercado_Livre?useskin=vector-2022 or (worse yet) the new logo pasted over top of the three segments (icon, wordmark, tagline) of the default logo for the new vector-2022 skin. And yes, pt:Mercado Livre looked fine under the old Vector and Monobook skins. Any silly CSS tricks that hide the old logo and paste other junk over it are likely to have problems as the position of the various elements are not the same between Vector (2010) and Vector-2022.
    Miraheze seems to still use the old (2010) Vector skin for it: and ar:, leaving zh: (commie China simplified text) as the only Uncyclopedia wiki on the new skin there. They also seem to have some wikis on the new skin but with the new logos missing - including allthetropes.org, a TVtropes fork which is likely the largest wiki on their server.     Well, on zh-tw: we actually avoid using mw:Extension:LogoFunctions at all and try to use pure CSS and JavaScript instead, but I currently only defined code that works properly for the old Vector and Monobook skin. --Abcabc2 (talk) 11:53, 17 May 2023 (UTC)

    Uploading images to all wikis (not just Desciclopédia)

    All wikis without exception are experiencing problems loading images. I checked the fact in UnCommons and Desgalipedia. Soon after, Desciclopédia also opened a forum addressing the problem.

    This is the comment the system gave me when trying to load an image into UnCommons a few minutes ago:

    Failed to open lock file "mwstore://local-backend/local-public/3/33/MBL_caloteiro.png". Check that the uploads directory is configured correctly and that your web server has write permissions to that directory.     This looks to be Extension:UserFunctions requiring a specific variable (which was renamed in the new version) be set to use "personal data functions". {{#ifanon:then|else}} {{#ifblocked:then|else}} {{#ifsysop:then|else}} {{#ifingroup:group|then|else}} {{#ifingroup:group1, group2, group3|then|else}} seem to work, but {{#realname:alt}} {{#username:alt}} {{#useremail:alt}} {{#nickname:alt}} {{#ip:}} aren't working.
